One of the important historical moments in the Czech republic. A notable piece of art with a heavy history. Set in the beautiful old town square and now facing the newly reintroduced Marian column. Do note the crosses beneath the city hall tower which is connected to the Jan Hus monument...

Born in 1369, Hus became an influential religious thinker, philosopher, and reformer in Prague. He was a key predecessor to the Protestant movement of the sixteenth century. The Jan Hus Memorial stands at one end of Old Town Square, Prague in the Czech Republic. The huge monument depicts victorious Hussite warriors and Protestants who were forced into exile 200 years after Hus in the wake of the lost Battle of the White Mountain during the Thirty Years' War, and a young mother who symbolises national rebirth.

A large statue located in the Old Town Square. It was hard to see during Christmas due to the markets blocking out most of the square. It was quite nice with the stairs leading to it. I was only able to see it from 1 side due to the market.

The center points of the city. Crowded by tourists in both Day and night. Many kind of restaurants in the area (many asian restaurants). Most mini mart run by Vietnamese. The town is so beautiful with old building. I didn’t use public transport in Prague. The places to see is close to each other so I just walked all around.

This memorial stands in tribute to the martyrdom of Jan Hus and the allegorical victory of the reformers. The memorial is truly monumental in size and dominates the centre of the old town square. The memorial is a bronze sculpture depicting Jan Hus standing defiantly in the middle of the sculpture. To the left is the defeated counter-reformers and to the right is a woman, an allegorical reference to national rebirth. A fine memorial and worth visiting if in Prague, along with all the other attractions in the old town square.

The overall feel of Prague has left an indelible mark in my memory. Statues and facades all around the city caked with black oxidation, gives you the feeling you are in one of Bram Stoker’s novels. Jan Hus Memorial in Old Town Square is haunting in its own way, these depicted exiles look as if they are bogged down in a tar pit.
