Ignore the Google map directions to Lukov Castle which take you out of the town of Lukov and through a village called Vlkova. This takes you up winding roads to a place in a forest some way above the castle. To access the castle there’s a road leading directly from the centre of Lukov. Once there we enjoyed what there was to see

Beautiful place for a weekend bike trip or hike. We enjoyed the beer and Kofola at the bottom of the ruin. You get nice views. Oh and the insider advice is to come after 17 o'clock and visit the ruin for free with a sundowner.

The castle ruin skillfully presented for tourists. Expositions in the tower and the cellar. The rest of the ruin contains multiple walks and wooden stairs allowing access to various parts of the castle. Only necessary maintenance is done to preserverve and present the castle ruin, there is no attempt to reconstruct the castle. I visited the castle about 10 years after my previous visit and was pleasantly surprised by many changes. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place from the first sight. However, there were some reconstruction jobs going on at the time we came and on top of that we were unable to enter due to Castle being opened only at certain times. Shame as it's more of a ruin than proper standing castle. But hey, worth a trip if you keep the times in mind.
