Emil Filla Foundation was found by Filla's heir and by the owner of Chateau Peruc where Filla spent his last years. It was established to keep alive the legacy of Emil Filla, a great Czech cubist painter. Filla's life is full of surprises. He was leader of the Czech avant-gard, diplomat and spy - a member of Czechoslovak resistance. He was a man of values, arrested in 1939 by Nazis and kept in concentration camps till the end of the war. After the war he spent his last years in Chateau Peruc where he tried to recover from the horrors of war. He died 1953 in Prague. Apart of his artwork his legacy is a vehement social appeal for the independent nature of artistic expression and creative freedom. Therefore, Emil Filla Foundation will cherish Filla's legacy and hereditament, support research, publishing and academic projects connected to Filla, foster artistic creation, its promotion and its preservation for the next generations. Further, Chateau Peruc will provide space for creative activities and meetings of Emil Filla Club.
